Gage’s hackles stood on edge. He thought he’d hear Blake’s voice behind him. Feel the smash of the hood on his head or another bite to his leg.

He swiped his hand over his brow and stood. His mind wandering back to the day before. Quinton naked in the bathroom. He looked like two different men; the boy Gage grew up with, dark and beautiful, and the tortured man he’d become.

Why did he care how tortured Quinton was?

Because they were pack mates or–

He snarled, staring at the car’s innards laid before him. He didn’t need to think about that. He needed to be patrolling their territory with Axel or devising a plan before Blake attacked them again.

Axel said he’d be the new alpha a week before. At the time, Ben was too upset about his shop for them to finalize it – however that worked. Gage didn’t blame him, and Axel focused on his mate’s well-being. When Axel was alpha, he’d have to focus on the entire pack’s well-being.

Hopefully, he was up to the challenge.

Ben and Axel were supposed to come over to Casa de Armonía tonight and join the pack officially. The thought turned a knot in Gage’s stomach. That also meant he’d have to explain what Blake was capable of, and it was worse than ruining a car and a boutique.

A lot worse.

As the sun lowered toward the ocean, Gage caught the scent of a wolf – a wolf he didn’t know. A wolf that had no damn right sneaking into their territory.

He finished washing the grease from his hands and arms, and turned. The reek of oil and metal stung his nose, but the musk floated on the sea breeze.

Tony looked at him and raised an eyebrow. “Kicking off?”

“In a minute,” Gage grumbled, glancing out the open garage doors. He couldn’t explain the smell to a human. Tony would think Gage lost his mind.

He listened to the cars rumbled down Pacific Avenue and sniffed. It wasn’t Blake or any of the wolves that chased him from the bar. But the stench reeked of the Eastside pack. He scanned the shops across the street.

An antique store.

The surf shop.

There!

A kid crouched in the alley. Well, not a kid, but he was younger than Gage’s twenty-five years. Probably eighteen or nineteen. And he was small, an omega. Was Blake that desperate or was this stupid wolf trying to show off?

Gage stalked toward him.

Their eyes locked, and the omega stood his ground, though he shook from shoulders to toes. A bruise covered his entire right cheek. His hair might’ve been blond, but it was too dirty to be sure.

Gage glared. “What the hell are you doing on our territory, omega? You’re lucky I don’t string you up right here after what your alpha did.”

The kid’s eyes shot back and forth, and he fidgeted with his T-shirt. “Dom?”

“Who else? You’re not a very good spy,” Gage growled and shoved the omega against the wall.

He stared, his blue eyes wide. “I’m not a spy!”

“You’re a member of the Eastside pack,” Gage said.
